THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — After serving a stint as a community board chair, trans man Mel Wymore is running for a seat on the New York City council. He says he’s not doing this to make history, buy rather, because he wants to serve his community.

Wymore:  “After I served as chair of Community Board 7, I felt like City Council was a natural progression. I really enjoyed being chair of the board, . . . and being able to engage in so many different issues and constituents.”

On being trans: “I don’t know how else to be except open and honest about who I am.”

On being a trans role model: “I would hope to be a role model for all people, not just LGBT.  I hope I can stand as an example for anyone who wants to be empowered to participate in a bigger way.”

Trans rights bill repeal fails.

An attempt to repeal a recently enacted Baltimore county, Maryland trans rights bill has failed. Organizers failed to gain enough signatures and faced harsh opposition during public meetings as their scare tactics failed to drum up support for the repeal.

As a side note, it was reported that some of the people supporting the repeal were a small number of “radical lesbian separatist feminists”.

GOP-backed voter ID laws could disenfranchise 25,000 transgender voters

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — You read that right, according to a new study, stricter voter ID laws enacted in states like Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and Wisconsin will put a large number of transgender voters at a major disadvantage where previously this hurdle did not exist.

Earlier I reported on the GOP’s agenda to get as many states as possible to place hurdles between voters and ballot boxes all in the name of preventing a non-existent problem – “voter fraud”. These hurdles impact Democrat voters far more than Republican voters. Now this new study confirms transgender voters will be impacted in a major way as well.

From the Williams Institute study The Potential Impact of Voter Identification Laws on Transgender Voters:  “. . . 41 percent of transgender citizens who have transitioned reported not having an updated driver’s license and 74 percent did not have an updated U.S. passport. Moreover, 27 percent of transgender citizens who have transitioned reported that they had no identity documents or records that list their current gender.”

Jody L. Herman, Ph.D., author of the study: “As lawmakers consider enacting stricter voter ID laws and contemplate their potential impact in the upcoming November elections, the consequences of these laws for transgender voters should not be overlooked.”

Clearly a large number of transgender voters will likely stay home rather than face a potential hassle at the polls. I’m thinking were looking at possible lawsuit or two . . . ACLU, interested?

Canada tries again with trans rights bill, Arizona goes off deep end

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — Perhaps prompted by the Jenna Talackona-Miss Universe saga, Canada’s Parliament sped up a trans rights bill that was introduced last year with a second reading last week. The bill will add trans people to the Canadian Human Rights Act and make violence against them a hate crime. This is Canada’s fourth attempt at enacting a trans civil rights law.

The Arizona legislature this week sent three dubious bills to Gov. Jan Brewer to sign, one of which says that pregnancies begin 2 weeks before conception (date of a woman’s last period). Not only this makes a mockery of a woman’s biology, it is also a legal Pandora’s Box that will make a beeline to the U.S. Supreme Court. Another bill requires that schools teach kids that for unwanted pregnancy, adoption and birth is the most acceptable outcome. A third bill prevents doctors from being sued if they don’t tell parents something about the fetus that might cause them to terminate the pregnancy.

I won’t begin to get into this shameless runaround of a woman’s right to make choices. But I will once again stress that it is the President of the United States who appoints justices to the U.S. Supreme Court – the final arbitrator of nutty laws like these. Please vote accordingly.

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — The election is over and the Anchorage trans-LGB rights bill failed, however I feel the need to share this bit of information I discovered only after the election.

Opponents of  Anchorage’s Proposition 5, ran a series of cartoons dehumanizing trans people on television in an attempt to use fear to sway voters. Here’s an example:

From On Top Magazine: In the 30-second ad titled Daycare and released on Friday, an animated day care owner is forced to hire a “transvestite” as horrified parents look on. The cartoon “transvestite” is drawn to look like an unshaven, hairy chested man in a short pink dress. “If she hires him, she risks losing customers,” a female narrator is heard saying. “And if she refuses, she can be fined or imprisoned. Anchorage is already a tolerant city, vote no on Proposition 5,” she adds.

Jim Minnery, Chair of the No on 5 Campaign: Because proponents of Prop. 5 refused to provide a definition of  “transgendered identity” in their proposed law, it is very difficult to  determine just what a transgendered individual is or looks like.

Transgender woman killed in Detroit, Anchorage voters reject transgender-LGB rights initiative

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — Details are scant on the killing of trans woman Coko Williams. She was found shot to death outside a home in the Parkhurst area of Detroit on April 3, 2012. No other facts available at this time.

Voters in Anchorage, Alaska have apparently rejected the trans-LGB legal protection initiative. Strong vocal support for and against this measure attracted the attention of people outside of the city and the state of Alaska. On election day, matters were further stressed when a number of polling places ran out of ballots and misinformation from opponents of the bill confused some voters, although most likely those confused were against the ordinance.

While the ACLU is looking into the matter, it doesn’t appear there are enough ballots in question to change the outcome. Proponents of the initiative say it’s just a matter of time before an ordinance like this becomes law.

I should note here that opponents of the bill portrayed trans people in demeaning cartoons to drum up opposition to the bill.

Conservative Supreme Court justices hands transgender people a serious invasion of their personal privacy

On election day, remember to vote accordingly.

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — A divided U.S. Supreme Court with swing voting Justice Kennedy joining the 4 conservatives ruled that jailers can subject people arrested for minor offenses (such as traffic stops) can be subject to invasive strip searches.

I do not need to explain the tremendous negative impact this will have on trans people, especially those that are transiting. Now its open season if you get busted for a minor traffic offense and taken to jail. Backward thinking jailers in backward thinking counties and states may do who-knows-what.

Prior to this ruling, lower courts tended to ruled that invasive strip searches were not permitted for minor offenses. Indeed, a number of states had laws against it. But it has all been overturned by 5 conservative Supreme Court justices — all appointed by Republican presidents. The 4 liberal justices who opposed the ruling were appointed by Democrats.

Who you vote for MATTERS. The Supreme Court is the final arbitrator of the constitutionality of laws, ESPECIALLY nutty laws, of which many have been passed these days.

For trans people, showing up on election day and voting for the president who will appoint justices that has your well-being in mind is the single most important decision you can make for yourself.

Respond to Idaho state Sen. Chuck “women-use-rape-as-an-excuse-for-abortion” Winder

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — I’ll just right to the gist here: Idaho state Sen. Chuck Winder thinks women might claim “rape” as an excuse to get an abortion.

Winder, the sponsor of a mandatory ultrasound bill, says that providing an exception in his bill for rape, incest victims and medical emergency to avoid the invasive ultrasound probe would be a loophole for women to use to get abortions.

Winder: “Rape and incest was used as a reason to oppose this. I would hope that when a woman goes in to a physician with a rape issue, that physician will indeed ask her about perhaps her marriage, was this pregnancy caused by normal relations in a marriage or was it truly caused by a rape. I assume that’s part of the counseling that goes on.”

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — Equality Nevada’s executive director Lauren Scott is running for a seat in the Nevada assembly as a Republican. She was formerly a Democrat and believes the switch will help her to be effective in the state capitol. If elected, Scott would be the first transgender assembly person.

Scott: “We need visionary and decisive leaders in Carson City, not legislators beholden to corporate interests. If left unchecked, neoconservative policies will turn Nevada into a corporate-owned wasteland, not a state for the people and their families. I will bring leadership and common sense back to the Republican Party.”

Scott served in the Air Force and was awarded several medals for her service in Operation Desert Storm. She says her work as a civil rights activist gained her knowledge of the ins and outs of the legislative process as she worked closely with the legislature to pass important legislation.

Rush – waiting for the other shoe to drop!

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — Week 3: Only two sponsors and no other ad revenue in sight. Rush’s syndicator  Premier is burning through a million dollars week airing mostly public service announcements, all the while paying Rush $750,000 each week. Premiere yanked all their national advertising slots because they couldn’t even trust local radio station to do it themselves. Sponsors were requesting “Rush-free grids” ensure their ads didn’t run during his show.

Clear Channel, owner of most of the stations carrying Rush is staggering under a massive debt load, recently filed to restructure their debt. They’re expecting a $200 million loss this year. Reports say they’re losing about a million for each week the ads don’t run.

In addition, there’s pressure from Cumulus Media Networks, the owner of Limbaugh’s largest stations in New York, Chicago, and in Washington, D.C. — Cumulus plans to syndicate Mike Huckabee’s new talk show this April head-to-head with Rush. Without revenue from Rush, Cumulus could simply just drop Rush from their prestige stations and run Huckabee, sparing them revenue and logistics headaches! Rush’s ratings is reportedly down 37% from 2010 on Cumulus’ New York station.

That is almost a no brainer decision since Cumulus would not ever have to worry about Huckabee calling anyone a “slut.” Oh, and the two sponsors supporting Rush? LifeLock — a company caught defrauding customers and a cemetary in New Jersey.

“This year’s presidential race is already one of the most ugly and nasty in recent history. But a photo of a racist anti-Obama bumper sticker that has gone viral across social media, ranks as one of the lowest of many low moments. The sticker reads “Don’t Re-Nig in 2012″ in large white script, with “Stop Repeat Offenders. Don’t reelect Obama!” in smaller script below. The sticker originated from a site called Stumpy’s Stickers, which has since shut down and which also sold several other racist and anti-Obama-themed stickers, including one with hooded Ku Klux Klan figures bearing the phrase “The Original Boyz N The Hood.”“

GOP’s War on Women – Hillary Clinton is the inevitable choice in 2016.

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — She says she’s done in 2012. She’s tired. Being Secretary of State in the best of times is physically and mentally draining, and the last 4 years has been anything but the best of times. However, she juggled crises better than most of her peers holding the position and has endured the President’s entire term, all the while impressing everyone, including her detractors. A nice comfy retirement on the lecture circuit is what awaits people of achieving these accomplishments in normal times.

But we are in anything but normal times. We’re at a historical turning point of Biblical proportions. Around the women are facing setbacks never foreseen in modern times, and this is never more so than right here at home in the United States. Hillary Clinton is the one person with the means and influence to upend the Republican War on Women.

If Hillary were on the 2012 ballot, she’d have an easier time than Obama winning back the White House. A Obama-Clinton 2012 ticket would be the ticket, but that isn’t going to happen. Besides, she wants to retire, remember?

So I’m asking that Hillary reconsider her retirement plans and take on something of historical significance. In the end maybe she’ll be able to leave behind a Clinton legacy that her husband hoped to do, but squandered away.

Obama blocks Texas’ attempt to hinder Democrats access to the ballot box

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT  — That is all this so-called “voter fraud prevention” law does and the Justice Department agreed. The new Texas law to require photo ID at the polls was blocked by the Obama Administration stating it would disenfranchise Hispanic, poor and disabled voters — all people who tend to vote Democratic. They also cited little evidence of voter fraud justifying the new law.

The Voting Rights Act of 1965 allows the federal government to intervene when states attempt to restrict access to the ballot box.

ACLU’s Katie O’Connor “Texas’ voter ID law would prevent countless Latinos, African-Americans, elderly citizens and others from casting their ballot. We’re pleased the Department of Justice has recognized the harms this discriminatory law would have on people’s fundamental right to vote.”

Texas Gov. Rick Perry: “yet another example of the Obama administration’s continuing and pervasive federal overreach.”

A number of states have enacted laws to restrict mostly Democrat access to the ballot box under the disguise of  “voter fraud prevention”.  Obama has already reversed a similar law in South Carolina.

Let’s be clear about this folks — there is no problem with voter fraud, laws like these are just attempt to dissuade Democrats from voting. Besides, the last high-profile voter-fraud case was a Republican Secretary of State – Charlie White. The law enacted in Texas would have not prevented that kind of voter fraud.

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — This memo came to me via a radio business site. They are warning radio stations against running ANY of the 98 advertisers on the list during controversial shows like Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, Tom Leykis, Michael Savage, Glenn Beck, and Sean Hannity.

In other words, prior to Rush’s “slut” comments, some of these ads could or would have ran during during these other host’s programs. These ads are now “off limits” to them as well as Limbaugh. This is a huge hit in the pocketbook for them and the radio stations carrying them. The memo:

In your position as Traffic Manager, you know the programming environments of your station(s) that these advertisers may find objectionable.  Please ensure their commercials that you receive as part of any Premiere Radio Networks inventory do not air in these programming positions . . .”

The 98 sponsors include Ford, Toyota, NBC-TV, VISA and McDonalds.

At this point, almost 50 sponsors of The Rush Limbaugh Show has pulled ads and most of the ad spots being run during the show are PSAs.  From the Huffington Post: Media watchdogs have been paying close attention to the commercials aired during Rush Limbaugh’s radio show, as nearly 50 advertisers have pulled their content from the program . . . Reports about Limbaugh’s Thursday program showed that 77 of the 86 spots that aired were “free public service announcements donated by the Ad Council.” Additionally, seven ads were from companies “in the process of pulling their spots.” This apparently left only two paid advertisements.

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — Let me grab the Golden EIB Microphone for just a minute here and share a few comments that came in over the last few days — I’m telling you folks, you just can’t make this stuff up!

“They [sponsors pulling their ads] just lowered their potential customer base by 2/3. Do they honestly think the nut-case left is going to support them. I’m glad they are gone. I’m sending Rush sizable cash to tide him over . . .”

You’re going to send Rush a check to tide him over? Ask your friends to contribute, too.

“The average, every day liberal numb-scull doesn’t listen to Rush. That are just a few assigned screwballs trying always to catch him saying or doing something wrong.”

Damn those screwball libs always catching him saying the wrong things! They should send the numb-scull libs instead.

“I have not watched or listened to the leftist networks in over three years. I watch NOVA . . .”

Are you sure you’re listening to the Rush Limbaugh Show? It’s kind of hard to believe Rush has never said a single word about PBS!

“Unlike you I believe in free speech, especially free speech that I disagree with.”

Wow! Now that makes perfect sense!

“And don’t give me BS about Women’s Health issues. There is a total of nine women in my exstended family; and not one agrees with the left’s assessment of this reality.”

You mean as in ‘seen, but not heard’? You got them all trained right!

“She is a 30 something Feminazi and trained agitator for the far left.”

Wow, there’s nothing quite like digging into the Third Reich for terminology to impress us all.

Soon, all this will pass. Rush will have bigger and better sponsors, and a much larger listening audience, and making far more money, and having more fun than anyone should be entitled to. Then, all you liberals, with your hero, Bill Maher, can get back to your circle-jerk with silly grins on your face, getting all the joy out of life you are capable of.

But, I just love doing silly grins in a circle jerk with Bill Maher! (I kinda thought Bill was a moderate . . . but no matter, we’re talking with a Rush supporter here.)
