Helena Commissioner Katherine Haque-Hausrath
THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — The Helena, Montana, city commission is on the right track with a trans/LGBT anti-discrimination ordinance. The first vote taken on it passed unanimously. However, to get to that point, an amendment was added that restricts certain trans people’s access to some facilities when nude.
The restriction: “In any place of public accommodation where users ordinarily appear in the nude, users may be required to use the facility designated for their anatomical sex, regardless of their gender identity.”
Not all commissioners are on board with the amendment however. Commissioner Katherine Haque-Hausrath says it is a violation of privacy but voted for the ordinance as amended. A final hearing and a vote on the ordinance is scheduled for December 17, 2012.

I am hoping that between now and the 17th, the city gets input from transgender legal advocates and do something about that amendment. For one thing, in the case of some trans people, their “anatomical sex” consists of both genders. Amendments ought not be proposed by people without a bit of background inquiry into the subject.

Wish the idiots in City Hall would use english, not legal-beagle.. What are they referring to, change rooms? I tend to not prance around nude in any public place, before or after transition…

Guys prance with there thinks real girls may show upstairs but not forcing and respect others.
If what they’re trying to do is to reduce the amount of people uncomfortable in nude situations, they’re doing it wrong. Just like the cisgender population, only one in ten transgender folks are gay. That means they’re wanting 90% of the people this amendment affects to have not just permission, but the requirement to use the facilities of the people they find attractive. I’d say that’ll make all involved uncomfortable at the least and will end with a lot of transbeatings as well. So, in order to make the population feel more secure about the 10% of transfolk that are LGB, they’re making the entirety of the population (cis- and trans-) uncomfortable instead, along with providing an atmosphere where violence is sure to occur.
I think a clever Rad Con in Helena must have slipped that in. So, if your nude in a public restroom; you have to be where it suits your anatomy i.e. The Wrong Place!!

That’s just wrong. I live in Colorado; we have no such nude laws. I’m pre-op and use the women’s locker room at the gym. Though there were some complaints initially, the experience has been safe and positive. I generally use one of the changing closets for my own comfort, but not always.
