Australian court convicts attacker of trans woman

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — A woman using a shovel to hit a wheelchair-bound trans woman has been convicted in an Australian court. Christie Keighran, 22, of Lavington is due to be sentenced next month.

Donna Macklan, 41, was severely injured in the unprovoked attack. She had apparently went to a resident to visit a friend when she was attacked by other people there. Not much other information is available at this time.

TV show “Fox and Friends” mocking transgender people for ratings?

Elmo, reporting for FOX News. (This is the level of seriousness one should give to all things FOX News.

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — Criticizing gender-neutral housing on college campuses, the hosts of “Fox & Friends” recently said:  “you may not feel too secure” and “if you have kids in college, I got two girls there right now and this is an eye opener.”

This, of course, is FOX News, where regular smearing of transgender people is the norm. Most recently from them was their “repulsion” of  Chaz Bono on Dancing With The Stars and the resulting dispensing of bad medical advice to viewers of the show.

Transgender student gets kicked out of college for gender “fraud”

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — California Baptist University expelled Domaine Javier, after she revealed on MTV she was biologically male. Javier has identified herself as female since she was a toddler. Cal Baptist reportedly stated they kicked Javier out for “committing or attempting to engage in fraud, or concealing identity” when she checked “female” on her application form.

Javier: “I didn’t do anything wrong, they said, ‘On your application form you put ‘female.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, that’s how I see myself.”

Mark Wood of the Transgender Law Center: ”California law prohibits employment, housing, government, insurance and other types of discrimination based upon gender identity. But private universities generally are not covered by the law.”

University spokesperson Mark Wyatt: “California Baptist University does not comment on student disciplinary matters . . .”

From the Press-Enterprise:  “Cal Baptist’s written policies do not explicitly bar transgender students. But it has generally socially conservative rules, including a prohibition of social dances on university property and a requirement that applicants sign a form agreeing not to engage in homosexual behavior or to cohabit with someone of the opposite sex.”

Netflix sucks up one third of Internet bandwidth!

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — Well, that’s a sobering bit of information, but there’s more: video consumes 1/3 of of peak mobile traffic — most of that is attributed to YouTube! Yep, the stuttering video on your smart phone is caused by other mobile users watching video as well.

Is this fair for other users? There may be a shake out on this. However, video is driving mobile technology — we’re getting better phones as a result of people’s desire to watch video on their phones.

More factoids: Real-time entertainment and apps bandwidth usage approach two thirds of peak traffic, and in North America only 45% of the traffic goes to PCs or laptop — most go to mobile or game consoles type devices!

Howard County (Maryland) to make gender identity a protected class.

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — With a solid Democratic majority on the Howard county Council in Maryland, the council is expected to make  gender identity a protected class. This ensures that all transgender residents have equal treatment when it comes to employment and housing in Howard county. If passed, it will be the third jurisdiction in Maryland making transgender a protected class.

Council Chairman Calvin Ball: “It’s important for us to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for all of our residents, in a world where there are people who because of their gender identity are being discriminated against, we need to take action.”

Sharon Brackett, board Chairwoman of Gender Rights Maryland: “Because of the stigma and the social prejudice that exists, there are countless folks that are closeted, the council bill should help lift some of the stigma and prejudice . . .”

Heath Goisovich of PFLAG is saying the bill should not have much opposition.

Court rules transgender Illinoisans can update their birth certificates without genital surgery.

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — A ruling from a Cook County (IL) Circuit Court judge has made it easier to obtain a gender change on one’s birth certificate, but it is far from being certain for everyone that applies for this change.

The Civil Rights Agenda’s Anthony Martinez: “The new rules mandate that transgender applicants prove they have had an “operation,” which is better than the word “surgery, operation” could be interpreted by physicians as hormone replacement therapy, which might allow some who have not had surgery to update their documents. “Surgery,” the word used in the old policy, required actual cutting.” (Source: Windy City Times)

John Knight of the ACLU: “It confirms our long-held belief that the State never should have involved itself in these private decisions about medical care,” we hope that everyone who sought a new birth certificate listing their correct gender from the Department of Public Health in the past—and been denied—will act quickly to apply for a new birth certificate.”

Lauren Grey, Victor Williams and Nicholas Guarino, and the ACLU sued the state because they wanted to change their birth certificates but didn’t yet have SRS as required by the state of Illinois.

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT –[Update: see below] Mom says troop leader said: ‘It doesn’t matter how he looks, he has boy parts, he can’t be in Girl Scouts. “

Felisha Archuleta, the mother of 7-year-old Bobby Montoya said: “Bobby identifies as a girl, and he’s a boy . . .”

Bobby’s older sister was in the Girl Scouts and he really wanted to join, but when they went to sign up in Denver, CO, they were told Bobby couldn’t join.

After the child’s mother talked to the news media, the Girl Scouts released a statement which included this: “If a child identifies as a girl and the child’s family presents her as a girl, Girl Scouts of Colorado welcomes her as a Girl Scout. Our requests for support of transgender kids have grown, and Girl Scouts of Colorado is working to best support these children . . .”

The statement went on to say that they’d be contacting the family to get the child involved in Girl Scouts.

Thumbs up to the Girl Scouts! I’d say the Girl Scouts are a couple decades ahead of the Boy Scouts.

From IBTimes: “Almost two months after Bobby Montoya was allowed to join the Girl Scouts, however, several troops in Louisiana caught wind of the story, and have since disbanded their troops in very public protest.

Susan Bryant-Snure, a mother and former troop leader at Northland Christian School in Lacombe, La. has been especially vocal about the organization’s decision.

“It goes against what we believe,” Bryant-Snure told The Baptist Press, calling the decision “extremely confusing” and an “almost dangerous situation” for young children.

Jeff Johnson, a social issues analyst in the Public Policy Department of Colorado-based Focus on the Family, echoed Bryant-Snure’s statements, saying having a boy in the Girl Scouts would be “inappropriate” and denied the “biblical truth that God made us male and female in His image.”

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — Cambridge City Councilor Sarah Brown says she’s “probably the only ‘out’ transgender activist serving as an elected politician in the UK” after being named as one of the most influential transgender people in the UK by Independent on Sunday’s Pink List Top 100.

Brown: “I’m delighted that my work has been has been recognised in this way. . . .  It raises the profile of transgender people and promotes greater understanding.”

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — One of my new Facebook friends is saying that her friend said (I know, friend of a friend) that a trans woman appeared on Jeopardy today (Oct. 24, 2012). Anybody know anything about this? My check of the “usual sources” came up with zip, and a meeting in an underground parking garage with Deep Throat was unproductive. So, if anyone saw the show, or better yet has a link to that information, I’ll update everyone.

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — I keep tabs on the Michele Bachmann presidential campaign solely because they are an insult to rational thinking people. Know thy enemy the saying goes, and this one, I now know quite well. Now in a spiral dive, nothing short divine intervention can save Bachmann’s presidential hopes.

Five New Hampshire staffers for the Bachmann campaign quit in frustration last week. From the Associated Press:  ” . . . they could not continue working for her [Bachmann] because her national campaign team had been “rude, unprofessional, dishonest, and at times cruel” to them and “abrasive, discourteous, and dismissive” of the state’s voters. These are our neighbors and our friends, and some within the national team treated them more as a nuisance than as potential supporters . . .”

Don’t feel sorry for Michele Bachmann — she’s ill equipped to be president and was weeded out. In fact, it appears her knack for making stuff up hastened her demise. Good riddance.

I really enjoyed this interview by Diane Anderson Minshall. Metal fans, and trans musicians will find this a worthy read.

Mina Caputo: “The whole penis… I’m OK with that down there, you know. Most people don’t realize that there’s more to being a woman than just, I guess, putting on dresses and wearing makeup and your genitals. [People think] you have a male body and a penis so that makes you the man. But they can’t dig deep enough unless they really want to understand what’s going on in the subconscious mind . . .”

The Confederate flag on Texas’ license plates? I don’t think so.

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee: “We cannot allow the state [Texas] to issue a symbol of intimidation.” Texas State Sen. Rodney Ellis: “Allowing these license plates would be allowing the people who lost a war to write history. “I’m glad they (the Confederates) lost,they were on the wrong side of history.”

A group called the Sons of Confederate Veterans created the design to honor Confederate veterans  of the Civil War. Nine other states have approved the design and the group has won lawsuits in states where they were initially denied.

On Nov. 10th, the Texas DMV will vote on the design. Rep. Lee plans to present petitions and a letter from other state legislators opposing the design.

Gov. Rick Perry has not commented on the matter. James Dixon, head of Community of Faith Church in Houston. “It amazes me that he has not yet spoken out against this insanity, and he attempts to talk about representing all of the United States of America,” said James Dixon of the Community of Faith Church.

This is a bit surprising to me — moving backwards I’d say. Perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised.

Anyone seen “Gun Hill Road”? Is it any good? It’s a transgender-themed film.

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — The protagonist is a transgender teen named “Michael” (Harmony Santana). I’ve not seen this yet and reviews are in the middle of the pack. Esai Morales (NYPD Blue) and Judy Reyes​ (Scrubs) are also in the film.

U.S. judge tells Arizona Gov. Brewer: “No, you can’t have a Police State.”

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — Papers, please? I don’t think so. “The ruling by U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton is an apparent blow to Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer and her allies, who last year passed a controversial law known as SB 1070.” (from CNN)

The tough new AZ immigration law enacted last year enabled law officers in some cases to operate akin to a Police State, including the  checking of a person’s immigration status as a required task while enforcing other laws.

Gov. Brewer said the state will appeal the decision and it is possible the case will wind up in the U.S. Supreme court.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t care for laws that require authorities to hassle its citizens on whether they’re citizens while they “protect and serve.”
