THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT by Lexie Cannes

Rational thinking and reporting on all things transgender by Lexie Cannes.

Twitter research show that, yep, we are crabby on Mondays.

According to Twitter we are crabby on Mondays!

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — Not only that, these emotional tones follow a pattern through the day, week and even seasons. Emotions brighten shortly after rising in the AM with a lull in the afternoon follow a rise in the early evening. These patterns transcend cultures around the world suggesting that our moods have an underlying biological rhythm in common.

This study was done by Scott Golder and Michael W Macy drawing on messages from 2 million people in 84 countries using Twitter.

Leaderless Wall St. resistance movement in need of a leader!

Pilots join Wall St. protest (photo: Forbes)

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — Protester Chris Biemer: “At a certain point, there’s a valid criticism in people asking, ‘What are you doing here?’”

The movement began as a protest against greed — something that a large part of the country understands, but now it appears other parties have joined the protests to bring attention to their own smaller “specialized” agendas. The pilots union marching against the United-Continental merger — this alone is a worthy cause of concern for America — but it seemingly adds confusion to many Americans who are trying to get a handle on this protest.

Not that I’m discouraging unions and other groups marginalized by corporate greed from participating — in fact I encourage everyone to join in — it is however time for a single voice stating a clear goal. Otherwise the people we need to reach may just tune out.

Transgender students and staff now protected at AZ’s Maricopa Community College

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — MCC Board member Don Campbell: “There was a time when everyone here of different colors and different beliefs would not have been here because of discrimination and segregation. It took years to change that. I think we’re asking for another change here today.”

The president of Equality Maricopa, Dale Heuser, the group that has been pushing for this change since 2003, stated that some students who have left for other colleges while transitioning will return. Heuser, who is on the staff at Paradise Valley Community College noted that staff members have waited to retire before transitioning.  The MCC board approved this change 3 to 2.

Mayor’s race in Portland, Or. Anyone else want to jump in?

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — Our choices: A guy who didn’t start voting until recently (Jefferson Smith), a guy who did vote in Oregon, but claimed residency in another state (Charlie Hales), a woman who got banned from a city park for not complying with a police request during a crowded situation (Eileen Brady).

We’re off to a dubious start. Maybe one of these candidates will eventually become an excellent mayor, but I’m less than pleased at the moment here.
Randy Leonard, maybe you ought to jump in? Earl Blumenaur, come home? Sam, second thoughts?

Madison Park of CNN: Transgender kids — Painful quest to be who they are

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT —   Quote: “The 3-year-old had learned sign language because he had apraxia, a speech impediment that hindered his ability to talk. The toddler pointed to himself and signed, “I am a girl.”

This is a powerful way to make a point.

Madison Park of CNN writes:

When children insist that their gender doesn’t match their body, it can trigger a confusing, painful odyssey for the family. And most of the time, these families face isolating experiences trying to decide what is best for their kids, especially because transgender issues are viewed as mysterious, and loaded with stigma and judgment.

I was asked: Do I have to register my screenplay for it to be copyright protected?

The Guerrilla Angel on Indie Filmmaking

THE GUERRILLA FILMMAKER’S DOSSIER — Anything you write (except for titles) is copyright protected whether you “register” it or not. This protection is granted to you via U.S. copyright law as soon as your pen leaves paper.

Registering it or other paperwork BS just offers another layer, of perhaps false sense, of “protection”, but doesn’t prevent your work from getting stolen or save you from having to sue to recover damages should this happen.

Whether or not registering your work pencils out depends on the perceived value of it. The higher the possibility it will actually get sold, the more registering it makes sense.

The vast majority of of scripts aren’t worth the paper its printed on and somebody is rolling in dough with the needless $$$ being paid to register worthless scripts.

Thanks for reading and good luck.

The Beatles — taking a stand against segregation in the U.S. in 1964.

No segregated audiences for The Beatles

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — John Lennon: “We never play to segregated audiences and we aren’t going to start now.” Prior to a concert at the Gator Bowl in Florida in 1964, The Beatles showed their consciences by refusing to play unless the audience was integrated. Officials backed down and allowed the integration of different races in the audience and the concert went ahead.

This profound influence on society by The Beatles was revisited when a document up for auction dealing with The Beatles’ San Francisco’s Cow Palace performance in 1965 indicated that the band would not play if the audience was segregated.

You shouted. You fell. But you kept rising.

A flogging in Saudi Arabia (photo: Camera Press-Retna)

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — Quote: “I have seen many instances of human brutality, but this one was particularly harrowing. In the midst of my revulsion, certain thoughts surfaced. I have been wondering how much courage it takes to lash a woman.”

This is from “Dignity and Depravity” written by Nobel Laureate and Pulitzer-prize winning author Toni Morrison after viewing a video of a woman being flogged.

“The lasting response I had watching that video is the most important. You did not crouch or kneel or assume a fetal position. You shouted. You fell. But you kept rising. After each cut of the lash into your flesh, you tried to stand; you raised your body up like a counter-whip. It so moved me to see your reactions; I interpreted them as glimmers of hope, of principled defiance.”

Fire up the DeLorean, faster than light travel is here, maybe.

Currently DeLoreans are being sold for $14K and up on eBay,

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — There is a report that scientists have broken the Einstein light speed limit, and if true, opens the door to, ahem, time travel without cheating (wormholes). There are, of course, practical limitations which I’ll get into later, but first, the claim by a group of scientists who supposedly managed to accelerate a particle a fraction of a second faster than the speed of light, must be replicated. I understand that several scientists are trying to do that now to confirm this discovery. However, if this claim cannot be duplicated, then the “discovery” is false regardless of whatever the original scientists announced. Therefore you may want to hold off on the purchase of the DeLorean until the verification is made.

If indeed particles can sped up to exceed the speed of light, then in theory, one can send matter to arrive ahead of an event travelling at light speed. In other words, you and your DeLorean arrives somewhere and you already know what going to occur shortly after arriving.

Of course, there are tech issues to overcome — accelerating even a pound of material close to the speed of light will require most of the energy available on this planet, then there are the G-forces to contend with . . . But let’s not get too carried away just yet. At the moment, let’s see if anyone can replicate this claim before putting down a bid on eBay.

Saudi King gives women “a right to vote” — who is he kidding?

The oppression of Saudi Arabian women isn't ending any time soon.

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — Besides the fact that voting in a country that is ruled by the royal family is rather meaningless, Saudi Arabia is a seriously backward country if they’re just now giving women the right to vote. Women there are not allowed to drive and cannot go to most places without a male chaperone. They need written permission from a male before they can travel, and to have certain types of surgeries. Then there is the garb thing. I could go on and on, but the point is this, for females,  Saudi Arabia is one of the most oppressive countries on the planet, and unless wholesale changes are made in that society pronto, this so called progress is more of an insult than anything else.

Finally, Boeing’s first 787 Dreamliner is delivered, 8 years after proposal.

Japan's All-Nippon airline takes delivery of the first Dreamliner.

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — It seemed like we started from scratch and got a man on the moon faster than it took Boeing to get this plane from paper to the customer.
Yes, its a great looking and highly advanced plane with over 800 orders for one on the books, but for this aviation fan, advances in aviation technologies seem to be slowing to a crawl.
The twin engine configuration may be approaching a technological wall. Perhaps its time to start with a clean slate and come up with something entirely different. How about it Boeing?

Gallaudet University, a college for deaf students, finally joins 21st century?

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — Declining enrollments, continued low educational output, academic probation and a bloated budget (federally supported) was the result of a deaf campus clinging to a way of life whose heyday dates from the ’60s. While the rest of society embraced diversity and technology, the campus of Gallaudet did not. The acceptance of the Cochlear Implant technology and especially, advocates supporting them, were shunned.

Somewhere along the line though it became apparent that Gallaudet had to change or it would become just a memory. The college recruited T. Alan Hurwitz as its new President 20 months ago and set it motion a survival plan that is just now showing progress. Whether or not it ultimately matters is another question entirely.

In the 1960s, many deaf people needed Gallaudet to succeed. In this century however, deaf people can succeed anywhere — A college, funded with federal dollars, devoted exclusively for deaf students may be a bit dated in this day and age, culture issues or not.

From the Washington Post: Rising numbers of Gallaudet students are products of a hearing world. The share of undergraduates who come from mainstream public schools rather than residential schools for the deaf has grown from 33 percent to 44 percent in four years. The number of students with cochlear implants, which stimulate the auditory nerve to create a sense of sound, has doubled to 102 since 2005.

. . .

The influx of “non-signers,” who can hear and speak or who read lips or text, may be necessary for Gallaudet’s survival. Yet it has sparked passionate debate on whether the university is becoming “hearing-ized” and whether deaf culture is slipping away.

Farmer’s Market FIRES transgender employee from market.

Transgender? You're FIRED!

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — A manager at the market said: “This is a family place, a family market and this [having a transgender person present] just isn’t right . . .”

The market in question is the Trails End Farmer’s Market on Dundas Street in London, Ontario, Canada.

FROM AM90 News: “Market officials were concerned transgendered individuals compromised their “family friendly atmosphere.”

Karen Clarke, the owner and proprietor of True 2 You of London, says nearly two weeks ago – on September 10th – she was told she could not set up a booth the following week if she planned on having a transgendered employee running it.

. . .

Michelle Boyce is now providing counsel to the vendor and says this is a case of blatant discrimination and a complaint will be filed with the Ontario Human Rights Commission.

“We’re in the process of filing human rights against Trails End Market, its blatant discrimination of what they’ve done. I’ve never seen a case so obvious.”

Ed Kikkert, the owner of the Trails End Market said: there was no “inappropriate behavior” on the part of the transgendered employee, saying the individual’s mere presence made customers uncomfortable.

Anti-LGBT Boy Scouts peddle for cash in front of Lowes.

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — As you know, the Boy Scouts won a legal battle to openly discriminate against transgender people, lesbians and everyone else under the LGBT umbrella. Backlash from other organizations like United Way — which cut off funding to them completely — has brought the Boy Scouts to their knees financially. As a result, you see them peddle in front of stores trying to raise the funds that were lost.

Many of our sisters and brothers rightfully complain to the managers of these stores, reminding them of the Boy Scouts discriminatory practices and often this results in the end of peddling for them. I regularly remind store managers when I see these groups at their stores.

Today however, at a Lowes in the Portland area, after talking with an assistant manager, I was surprised to learn that he supposedly never heard of this discrimination practice. It occurred to me that a lot of time has passed and now we have to EDUCATE, not just remind people of the dubious organization that is the Boy Scouts.
